Darker is a screen brightness adjustment app that aims to reduce eyestrain during nighttime use. With the built-in color filter, users can also customize their display color to filter out harsh white backgrounds. Unlike many other similar apps, Darker is fully functional and does not include any advertisements. Some additional features are available for purchase through in-app purchases.

For Xiaomi device / MIUI users, it is necessary to enable the "Display pop-up window" permission in Settings → Installed apps → Darker → Other permissions to ensure correct functionality.

The paid features of Darker include Auto-On & Auto-Off, Start at boot, Lower brightness below 20%, Darken navigation bar, Custom filter colors, Root mode, and Customizable notification buttons. The notification buttons allow users to quickly access brightness adjustments and other options like stop, pause, reset, and color filter toggles.

Keep in mind that when manually installing APK files, Android blocks the "Install" button from being pressed while Darker is running as a protective measure against malicious apps. Pausing Darker will resolve this issue.

Darker requires the use of accessibility services to darken the screen. However, no data will be accessed or shared via the AccessibilityService API.

The color filter function of Darker functions similarly to the desktop version of f.lux. By selecting a redder color, users can reduce the blue light emitted from their display.

Tasker Support:

Darker is compatible with Tasker, allowing users to send commands to Darker using Tasker intents. The following intents can be used:

To add the above intents to Tasker, go to Action Category→System→Send Intent→Action. Leave the other fields as default and note that the intents are case-sensitive.

The following two intents require an additional parameter in the "Extra" field:

• darker.SETCOLOR - "Extra" field: COLOR:1~16 (Colors are numbered left to right, top to bottom)
• darker.COLORSTRENGTH - "Extra" field: STRENGTH:1~10
